{"id":1895,"date":"2009-02-14T12:37:03","date_gmt":"2009-02-14T17:37:03","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.videoproductiontips.com\/?p=1895"},"modified":"2023-10-26T19:14:12","modified_gmt":"2023-10-27T00:14:12","slug":"online-video-marketing-a-great-example","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.videoproductiontips.com\/online-video-marketing-a-great-example\/","title":{"rendered":"Online Video Marketing:  A Great Example"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Here is an incredible example of an online marketing video I want to share with you.\u00a0 It was produced by Cisco to help launch a new product that will come out soon.\u00a0 This video combines, humor, storytelling, and mystery to create a VERY compelling online marketing video. \u00a0 In fact, I think this is just about perfect for the genre.<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/q-PdylxzQFY\" width=\"560\" height=\"315\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>What makes this video such a great example of online marketing?\u00a0 Here&#8217;s my 2 cents on that.<\/p>\n<p>1.\u00a0 Great storytelling!\u00a0 A brilliant use of likable characters to create a compelling story worth watching and remembering.<\/p>\n<p>2.\u00a0 It&#8217;s truly funny and entertaining.<\/p>\n<p>3.\u00a0 Great use of curiosity and mystery, which are standard marketing techniques.\u00a0 Here, the story is based on curiosity.<\/p>\n<p>4.\u00a0 At 2:45, it&#8217;s short, sweet, and to the point.<\/p>\n<p>5.\u00a0 They blasted it out to YouTube, Facebook, Twitter and a special product preview launch site.<\/p>\n<p>6.\u00a0 The production values, lighting, audio, editing, etc. are all good.\u00a0 Nothing terribly fancy, but good quality.<\/p>\n<p>I can not think of a single bad thing to say about this video.\u00a0 The only slight downside from the perspective of many of us&#8230;the small, mom-and-pop operations, is that obviously this video was not done in an afternoon with a budget of zero dollars.\u00a0 So you might be thinking, how can little ole me compete with this?<\/p>\n<p>Granted, this was produced by a corporation that has deeper pockets than most of us.\u00a0 BUT, it is actually a simple video that would not really take all that much time and money to produce.\u00a0 This is NOT a Hollywood big budget extravaganza.\u00a0\u00a0 The beauty of this video lies 90% in its great storytelling.<\/p>\n<p>They came up with characters.\u00a0 Likeable characters.\u00a0 The bumbling doofus model almost always works&#8230;think the Pink Panther.\u00a0 Their main character, Ira Pumfkin, is really pretty cliche when you think about it.\u00a0 That is NOT an insult. \u00a0\u00a0 Rather, I think this is an example of how clich\u00e9 can WORK. \u00a0 All the other characters are also very clich\u00e9, like the hard-driving boss. \u00a0 They made her a woman which breaks the mold, but only slightly.<\/p>\n<p>The characters and the story are indivisible.\u00a0 As a reporter, Ira is sent out to get a story.\u00a0 That&#8217;s what reporters do.\u00a0 The story just happens to be about what is really being advertised.<\/p>\n<p>My point is, this video is NOT what we might think of as a typical video story, something terribly complex with multidimensional characters and clever plot twists and turns. \u00a0 Nope, it&#8217;s just a simple, clich\u00e9 driven story that almost anyone could come up with.<\/p>\n<p>So the next time you are thinking of producing a marketing video, and you hear you should come up with a story, think of this example and remember, you do not have to come up with Star Wars.<\/p>\n<p>Thanks for reading Video Production Tips.<\/p>\n<p>Lorraine Grula<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Need some inspiration to produce a great online marketing video?
